Last night I had the combined joys of a wonderful model and new high-quality hot-pressed watercolor paper. I’m starting to think that I just paint men better than women. This smooth paper takes my paint in a way I much prefer to the rougher cold-pressed paper.

David finally let go of Jenny’s old Atala road bike; it was sold on ebay for a respectable price. Before the bike gets shipped off, I wanted to capture a sketch of it in watercolor paint. After about a half an hour of picking an angle, I ended up with an almost identical perspective as I took on Roxanne last week! Here’s the whole painting.

Last night I put Roxanne, my track bike, in an interesting angle underneath a powerful light and set about doing a quick sketch of her. I meant to just use 3 or 4 colors and spend only 15 minutes, but ended up spending a lot more time. In retrospect, I should have started on better paper! But I do like how this came out and I think it will be perfect on a greeting card.
