Kent – in iron, done
Kent now exists in many forms! He’s been cast three times, and painted a bit. The first casting, in plaster, has been painted and patinaed to look like aged bronze. The second casting, also in plaster but more thorough, has now been painted and patinaed to look like aged iron. It’s all rusty and very neat! The third casting, which still has to be chased, repaired, and finished, is made of aquaresin mixed with actual bronze powder, and is hollow.
Kent – in iron
There is now a second plaster casting of Kent. He’s been painted with iron paint. And he’s been lightly sprayed, and is rusting! Should look like aged iron soon enough.
Added ships
There used to be four drawings of ships on my website. Now there are 10. Somehow, I only ever photographed and put 4 of them on, but there were 6 others lying around as of this afternoon. Now they’re all up for everyone’s viewing.
animal – day 7
Last week I forged a lot more for my mystery animal. The forging process is interesting, especially when there’s no forge! I put up three pictures of the steps:
The animal now has a head and some of its hindquarters. Stay tuned.
animal – day 6
Starting forging the skin. It’s quite challenging because the metalshop I’m working at doesn’t actually have a working forge right now. My process is to heat small areas of a sheet of metal using an oxyacetilyne rosebud torch, and then do the baning on a piece of wood or in the sand or on an anvil. After I have a few pieces forged, I weld them on. It’s slow going, but I can really see the animal taking shape!
